Požoň Sentimental
O P.S.

O P.S.

(…) Among the concerts with music by Slovak composers, the one given by the ensemble Požoň sentimentál was of particular interest. Consisting of five players – flute, violin, cello, accordion, piano – the ensemble deals with the “multi-ethnic” tradition of Bratislava and looks back to the time when Slovaks, Czechs, Germans, and Hungarians were living...

Jaroslav Šťastný – Požoň sentimentál

At the first encounter with the phenomenon of Pozon Sentimental the listener can fall easily into a trap. Is this what “New Music” is all about? Is it not just a student joke? A reaction to growing complexity and serious attitudes? Or is it perhaps an expression of the young generation’s neoconservative beliefs? Alfred Einstein,...

Egon Bondy – excerpt from Episode 96

It used to be a town of four nations, and three of them are gone now. They were replaced by newcomers, coming from places both near and far, yet newcomers who still are rooted elsewhere and who do not consider my town to be their own; it often seems to me, that the town hasn’t...

Jozef Gejza Trinkerl – Cover Text from the first CD

With three years to go before the twenty-first century, the air over Bratislava is pouring from the West to the East, from the North to the South, over loosened border stones, freely as ever. Man has not yet discovered means to regulate the atmosphere flow, the freedom of which is always disturbing, for you can...

Marek Piaček, Peter Zagar – About Požoň sentimentál

Pozon sentimental was formed spontaneously in 1994 by members of the VENI ensemble, a contemporary music ensemble in Bratislava. The ensemble takes up the traditions of this region, in particular of the old trilingual town of Presporok/Pozsony/Pressburg (now Bratislava), performing music which was written by composers living or working in Pozsony in the past and...

Jozef Piaček, Elena Kmeťová – Open Realism

Open realism Open realism – words that best describe the compositional principle permeating the works of Marek Piaček. In the heart of this artistic attitude lies an open participation in the present, in what is now. The openness should be understood in the sense that the composer makes no judgements about the reality and that...

Falter, 1/2004, Wien:
